MQ-3 Gas Sensor Module This is the MQ-3 Gas Sensor Module, which is simple to use. It can sense the presence of Alcohol in the air. The module uses our MQ-3 sensor. It simplifies the interface to the odd pin spacing of the sensor and provides an interface through standard 4 x 0.1? header pins. MQ-3 gas sensor provides an analog output corresponding to the concentration of the gas in the air and an easy-to-use digital output. The sensitive material used for this sensor is SnO2, whose conductivity is lower in clean air. Its conductivity increases as the concentration of alcohol gasses increases. It has a high sensitivity to alcohol and has good resistance to disturbances due to smoke, vapour and gasoline. MQ-3 gas sensor module provides both digital and analog outputs. It can be easily interfaced with Microcontrollers like Arduino Boards , Raspberry Pi etc. This MQ-3 alcohol sensor is suitable for detecting alcohol concentration on your breath, just like your common breathalyzer. It has a high sensitivity and fast response time. The sensor provides an analog resistive output based on alcohol concentration. The drive circuit is very simple, all it needs is one resistor. A simple interface could be a 0-3.3V ADC read more : All About MQ Series Gas Sensor Key Features: Semiconductor Sensor Type Simple SIP header interface Compatible with the majority of microcontrollers Mode of low-power standby Heater voltage is required Excellent sensitivity to alcohol gas High sensitivity and rapid response Longevity at a low cost MQ-3 Gas Sensor Module Pin Diagram: MQ-3 Gas Sensor Module Pin Description MQ-3 Gas Sensor Module Pin Description: Pin Number Pin Name Description 1 VCC This pin provides power to the module; the typical operating voltage is +5V. 2 GND This pin Connects the module to the system ground. 3 DO ( Digital Out) You can also use this sensor to get digital output from this pin by adjusting the potentiometer. 4 AO ( Analog Out) Based on the intensity of the gas, this pin outputs a 0-5V analogue voltage. What gases can the MQ-3 sensor detect?
The MQ-3 sensor primarily detects alcohol (ethanol) but also responds to benzene, CH4, hexane, LPG, and CO at lower sensitivities.
Is the MQ-3 module compatible with Arduino and Raspberry Pi?
Yes, the MQ-3 module outputs analog (0–5V) and digital signals, making it fully compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and most microcontrollers.
What is the operating voltage of the MQ-3 sensor module?
The MQ-3 module requires a 5V DC power supply for stable operation and accurate gas detection.
Can I adjust the sensitivity of the MQ-3 sensor?
Yes, the onboard potentiometer allows you to adjust the digital output threshold for desired sensitivity levels.
