The devices consist of four master-slave flip-flops internally connected to provide a divide-by-two section and a divide-by-eight section. State changes in the Qn outputs do not occur simultaneously because of internal ripple delays. 4-bit D-type Registers with 3-State Output IC - 74HC173 The 74HC Series 74HC173 is a 4-bit register that includes D-type flip-flops featuring totem-pole 3-state outputs capable of driving highly capacitive or relatively low-impedance loads. The high-impedance third state and increased high-logic-level drive provide these flip-flops with the capability of being connected directly to and driving the bus lines in a bus-organized system without the need for interface or pull-up components.
