The SIM800A module supports Quad-band operation across 850/900/1800/1900 MHz frequencies, enabling transmission of voice, SMS, and data with low power consumption. With its compact dimensions of 100 x 53 x 15 mm, the module can easily meet the slim and compact requirements of custom designs. It includes an Embedded AT command set, offering cost savings and rapid time-to-market for customer applications. The SIM800A modem features a GSM chip and an RS232 interface, allowing convenient connection to computers or laptops using a USB to Serial connector, or to microcontrollers using an RS232 to TTL converter. When connecting the SIM800A modem via the USB to RS232 connector, it is necessary to identify the correct COM port from the Device Manager of the USB to Serial Adapter. Once the connection is established, you can use terminal software like Putty to open a connection to the designated COM port at a baud rate of 9600, which is the default baud rate for this modem. After establishing a serial connection through the computer or microcontroller, you can begin sending AT commands. Communication with the SIM800A module is achieved using AT instructions. The module comes with a SIM cardholder and an SMA antenna connector.
