CD4029 - Binary Decade Up-Down Counter IC The CD4029 IC consists of a four-stage binary or BCD-decade up/ down counter with provisions for look-ahead carry in both counting modes. The inputs consist of a single CLOCK, CARRY-IN (CLOCK ENABLE), BINARY/DECADE, UP/DOWN, PRESET ENABLE, and four individual JAM signals. Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, and a CARRY OUT signal are provided as outputs. A high PRESET ENABLE signal allows information on the JAM INPUTS to preset the counter to any state asynchronously with the clock. A low on each JAM line, when the PRESET-ENABLE signal is high, resets the counter to its zero counts. The counter is advanced one count at the positive transition of the clock when the CARRY-IN and PRE-SET ENABLE signals are low. Advancement is inhibited when the CARRY-IN or PRESET ENABLE signals are high. The CARRY-OUT signal is normally high and goes low when the counter reaches its maximum count in the UP mode or the minimum count in the DOWN mode provided the CARRY-IN signal is low. The CARRY-IN signal in the low state can thus be considered a CLOCK ENABLE. The CARRY-IN terminal must be connected to VSS when not in use. Binary counting is accomplished when the BINARY/DECADE input is high; the counter counts in the decade mode when the BINARY/DECADE input is low. The counter counts up when the UP/DOWN input is high, and down when the UP/DOWN input is low. Multiple packages can be connected in either a parallel clocking or a ripple-clocking arrangement as shown in Figure 17. Parallel clocking provides synchronous control and hence faster response from all counting outputs. Ripple-clocking allows for longer clock input rise and fall times. 555 Timer IC The 555 timer IC is an integrated circuit (chip) used in a variety of timer, pulse generation, and oscillator applications. The ic 555 can be used to provide time delays, as an oscillator, and as a flip-flop element. Derivatives provide up to four timing circuits in one package. These 555 timer ICs are precision timing circuits capable of producing accurate time delays or oscillations. In the time-delay or monostable mode of operation, the timed interval is controlled by a single external resistor and capacitor network. In the astable mode of operation, the frequency and duty cycle can be controlled independently with two external resistors and a single external capacitor. The threshold and trigger levels normally are two-thirds and one-third, respectively, of VCC. These levels can be altered by the use of the control voltage terminal. When the trigger input falls below the trigger level, the flip-flop is set and the output goes high. If the trigger input is above the trigger level and the threshold input is above the threshold level, the flip-flop is reset and the output is low. The reset (RESET) input can override all other inputs and can be used to initiate a new timing cycle. When RESET goes low, the flip-flop is reset and the output goes low. When the output is low, a low-impedance path is provided between discharge (DISCH) and ground. The output circuit is capable of sinking or sourcing current up to 200 mA. The operation is specified for supplies of 5 V to 15 V. With a 5-V supply, output levels are compatible with TTL inputs. The NE555 is characterized for operation from 0°C to 70°C. This is characterized for operation from –40°C to 85°C. The NE555 is characterized for operation over the full military range of –55°C to 125°C. CD4099 - 8 bit Addressable Latch IC The CD4099 8-bit addressable latch IC is a serial-input, parallel-output storage register that can perform a variety of functions. Data are inputted to a particular bit in the latch when that bit is addressed (by means of input A0, A1, A2) and when WRITE DISABLE is at a low level. CD4066 - Quad Bilateral Switch IC The CD4066 device is a quad bilateral switch intended for the transmission or multiplexing of analog or digital signals. It is pin-for-pin compatible with the CD4016 device but exhibits a much lower on-state resistance. In addition, the on-state resistance is relatively constant over the full signal-input range. The CD4x Series CD4066 device consists of four bilateral switches, each with independent controls. Both the p and the n devices in a given switch are biased on or off simultaneously by the control signal. The well of the n-channel device on each switch is tied to either the input (when the switch is on) or to V SS (when the switch is off). This configuration eliminates the variation of the switch-transistor threshold voltage with the input signal and, thus, keeps the on-state resistance low over the full operating-signal range. The advantages over single-channel switches include peak input-signal voltage swings equal to the full supply voltage and more constant on-state impedance over the input-signal range. Divide by 8 Counter/Divider IC - CD4022 The CD4022 IC is a 4-stage divide-by-8 Johnson counter with 8 decoded outputs and a carry-out bit. These counters are cleared to their zero counts by a logical ‘‘1’’ on their reset line.
